How to make a resume

Having a curriculum vitae (Latin for ‘course of life’) is very important. With your CV you tell who you are, what your work experience is and which skills you have already mastered. To ensure that your CV stands out from all other applications, it is important that it looks neat, attracts attention and contains all the necessary information. To get this done, you can use the tips below.
ANTS JOBS is happy to help you draw up a good CV. Keep the following tips in mind when creating!

1. Make your resume clear

A good resume is clear. You do this by using different cups. For example, by headings such as ‘work experience’ and ‘study’. If you want to list even more information, such as your hobbies or skills, you can also use separate headings for that.

2. Make a nice layout

This will make your resume stand out. A resume with a nice layout attracts attention. You do this by using colored cups or making a nice layout, instead of putting everything under each other. An example of a layout is shown later in this article. Don’t exaggerate, a resume with lots of colors or spelling mistakes is not business. It is best to use a maximum of 2 different colors.

3. Keep it short

A good resume has 1 or 2 pages. By keeping your resume short and clear, it is much easier to see what your work experience is and whether you are suitable for the position. Do not name information that is not important.

4. Tell something about yourself

Who are you and what are your strengths? Don’t make this piece too long, 2 or 3 sentences are enough. That way, someone reading your resume can quickly form a picture of what you enjoy doing and what motivates you. For example, you could put:

• I always put my best foot forward;
• I am reliable and I always keep to my agreements;
• I work hard and I would like to grow into another position.

5. Tailor the CV to the position you are applying for

Every job requires different experience and skills. For example, as a production employee it is important that you can work quickly and as a salesperson that you can convince. Think about what qualities and skills you have that are important for the job you want.

6. Use common job titles

Some companies use very creative titles, such as ‘director of first impressions’ instead of ‘receptionist’. Applying for a job at another company can cause confusion. Therefore, always use the most common title, such as operator, administrative employee or order picker.

7. Explain big holes in your resume

If you haven’t worked for a few months, it can be good to explain this on your resume. For example, were you a caregiver? Or did you want to spend more time with your children? Of course this is not an obligation!

The following parts are standard on a resume:

Your contact information
Email address, telephone number and place of residence/address.
You don’t have to name any other personal information, such as how many children you have.

Work experience
State the position, the company and how long you have been doing the work. Also briefly describe what work you performed or what the most important tasks were.
The work experience is in reverse order: you put the most recent work experience at the top, because this is often the most important.

Study
State which study you have followed, at which school and when. You can briefly describe what the study entails or which courses you have followed. This is especially useful if you have followed a study that is not so well known. Then someone who reads your resume will have a good idea of what you have learned.
Here too, you put the most recent study or course at the top.

Skills
What are you good at? For example, are you good at communicating or collaborating? Are you stress resistant? Also consider carefully which skills you have that match the position for which you are applying.

Other information
For example, you can list your hobbies, volunteer work or which driving licenses you have. This gives an even better idea of who you are.
